John Muir Laws is a naturalist, artist, and educator who has dedicated his work to connecting people to nature through art and science. From an early age, his parents instilled in him a deep love and respect for nature. He is founder and president of the Wild Wonder Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to encouraging nature, connection and conservation through attention, curiosity, art, science, and community.

Drawing to Learn: Introduction to Drawing Shorebirds/ Nature Journaling Birds Group A or Group B
Drawing is a tool that can help increase one’s perception in order to learn more about what is being observed.
Drawing shorebirds will train your eye to capture the subtlety and nuance of shape and the contrast of size. At high tide, shorebirds will flock together making comparison and sketching much easier. Learn the details of wader anatomy that are relevant for field sketchers and bird artists. Discover tricks to get down the shape quickly and easily, even on a bird that is moving. Learn the basic feather groups, and how to imply feather detail. Discover the variation in bill shapes and how to draw them. Basic principles of nature journaling will be reviewed.
Class will be offered twice, and will be very similar. Emphasis in Group A will be for those who are new to nature journaling.

From Field to Finish: Tips and Techniques

This session will provide helps and suggestions on how to complete journal entries back in the studio after being in the field. Kits extra in addition to class fee.

OUTDOOR FIELD SESSIONS
Join John Muir Laws in the field for an opportunity to participate in a guided field sketching experience. We will first spend time with the guide at each field location, and then branch off and begin our session with Jack.
The field sessions will be smaller in size than the indoor sessions, to provide time for more personal attention to participants.
Bring your field journal and art materials field kit. If you participated in the indoor class please bring your
Net Loft Laws Materials Kit.
Dress appropriately. Be prepared for cold temperatures and inclement weather. Transportation is not provided. We can carpool however, so if transportation needed, we can help you get there.
Meet in front of the Cordova Center 30 minutes prior to class starting time if needing a ride, or meet at location at time indicated.
