Leon Phillips Antler Buttons
Hand Made Deer Antler Buttons
Leon Phillips, of Laramie Wyoming hand makes deer antler buttons. One at a time, hand sawing, filing and sanding, until they are lustrous and smooth as ivory. Then they are drilled and ready to sew on hand knit garments. White Tail Deer are herbivores that shed their antlers every winter, and then start to grow them again. Some of the antlers were found as sheds or “pick ups” in the woods, others were hunted for the venison. When hunting, he takes care of the entire animal with respect and gratitude. Every antler has a different color and shape. The Net Loft in Cordova, Alaska is the sole distributor of these rare buttons.
